Paul Biss
Violin, Indiana University

Paul Biss (violin) is currently professor of music at Indiana University, where he teaches violin and chamber music and conducts a full season of orchestral concerts and opera. His own studies were with Josef Gingold at Indiana University and Ivan Galamian at Julliard. A former faculty member of the University of Tel Aviv and the University of Akron, he was assistant conductor of the Akron Symphony and former member of the Berkshire Quartet. Professor Biss has participated in major festivals including Ravinia, Marlboro, La Jolla, Lockenhaus, and Casals, and has taught master classes in Europe, Israel, and North America. He has performed as a soloist and with orchestras in North America, Europe, and Israel, and has performed chamber music concerts both as a violinist and violist. Paul Biss is the father of Jonathan Biss, renowned piano soloist (who will play with the ASO next season), and husband of Miriam Fried, renowned violin soloist and chamber musician.
